Shambhala Art can be seen as a process, a product, and an arts education program.  As a process, it brings wakefulness and awareness to the creative and viewing processes through the integration of contemplation and meditation.  As a product, it is art that wakes people up. Shambhala Art is also an international non-profit arts education program based on the Dharma Art teachings of the late Chögyam Trungpa Rinpoche, the founder of Shambhala Buddhism, Shambhala International, and Naropa Institute.  Shambhala Art is a division of Shambhala and is presided over by his son and heir, Sakyong Mipham Rinpoche. This program is taught by trained and authorized Shambhala Art teachers.

Inspired by Shambhala Art

Sharing the projects of individuals inspired by Shambhala Art principles

Art is unlimited. You can do anything. You can make a stick into a pair of chopsticks. You can do all kinds of things.
— Chogyam Trungpa Rinpoche

From the Shambhala Art point of view, an artist is an inspired human being who brings their complete awareness to the world. This inspiration is connected to and arises from the dual discipline of sitting meditation and a willingness to develop a particular set of skills or craft. From this ground arises the possibility of creating something that encourages sanity and wakefulness in the artist and in others.

Shambhala Art is pleased to provide a venue for projects inspired by the Shambhala Art principles. As part of creating an environment where discussion and exploration is encouraged, we’ve created ways for you to interact with each other and the individual(s) behind the project. We hope that this allows everyone to share their experience and discuss the possibility of wakefulness in everyday life.
